On "Left 4 Dead 2"

This is more of a rant then anything else and it begins with something I do quiet often: Gaming. I recently got "Left 4 Dead 2" and although I'm having what I think is just general fun with the game, it's "fun" part wore off about a good day into it.

Alrighty, where to begin. Well, first off, kudos for making a good line of game Valve. Half Life 2 + Episodes, Team Fortress 2, Portals, all great games. Then you thought you'd hit the nerd crowd right where they enjoy it. Their fascination in the zombie apocalypses, though not one of my first choices in end of the world scenarios (personal favorite being nuclear wasteland, thus why I love "Fallout 3"), it had the effect that I liked. Blood and gore in good amounts, it didn't feel like I was playing "Gears of War 2" from a first person point of view.

Now, I must admit, I did rather enjoy the slight programming errors that were totally unintended. The gatling gun gravity glitch was one of my favorites as was the jesus room on top of the plain in Dead Air. When you announced a "Crash Course" DLC, I naturally wanted to get it, but being the money grubbing people that you were, you charged XBL users. To that I say, I can live without, thanks.

Then almost a year later, "Left 4 Dead 2" comes out. Naturally I had it preordered cuz I enjoyed the first one. Okay, so hind sight is 20/20 and I am beginning to think it was a bad idea. The melee timer is totally unnecessary in offline campaign and did you have to bump up the damage to the hitpoints from common infected? You already added realism to the game.

Okay now, the melee weapons was a nice touch. The frying pan does make that satisfying sound but the machete and katana was naturally my favorite part... I really shouldn't say favorite. It was the only thing in the game I actually liked. Everything else was moderate to down right annoying. The spitters are too overpowering at any range. Their spit seems to defy the laws of gravity and hit the total opposite side of the map. Not even boomer bile or a smokers tongue can reach that far. The chargers are also very annoying. Hunters pounces and knock back the people around the pounced person, but a charger carries them away and starts hitting them on the ground. Jockey's are just... well, there's no other way to put it. They are fucking homo. Literally fucking homo. They hop on your head crotch rubbing against the back of your chrome, and while rubbing it up and down your hairy back side, they seem to be playing with you making you walk. Common sense dictates that you drop that mother fucker like a rock but naturally, you gotta walk, not bash that son of a bitch against anything.

Then there are the new equipment for survival. Bile Bombs;I prefer what Nick says, "Grabbing puke". Adrenaline shots; for those speed junkies that managed not to get infected but still want to do crack on the run. Defibrillator; seriously, its like "Hey, we don't need a guide to this. Let's just shock the fucker back to life". Oh, my personal favorite is the new weapons. Of course the first 6 were in there (uzzi, pump shotgun, fully automatic shotgun, M-16 assult rifle, hunting rifle, and the M9 pistol), with a set of 6 more weapons. Oh goodie...

So let me wrap all this up before you get bored. "Left 4 Dead 2": Twice the weapons, twice the infected, new campaign, new gameplay mode, new characters, Same shit, different title. Just give me Halo 3. I'd rather play that 50 more times then L4D2. Sure, I know what's coming in Halo 3, but you know what? At least they know how to program a game.

On Thanksgiving

Need I reminds you that if you're reading something on this blog on this kind of day, I must reminds you that you're not doing it right? Today is a holiday. One of the most "family"est related holiday ever, even over Christmas. Today is a day you spend with friends and loved ones.

Christmas may be special, but Thanksgiving is the best. I mean that truely. Today is that day where everyone sits around the table and while stuff their faces with unbelievable amounts of food, shares stories, catches up, complements, open up, and relax. It's simply a meal that brings the family together. After all, "the quickest way to a mans heart is through their stomach". Man, in this case, being the general species.

Christmas has an objective, a special agenda if you will. "Better to give then receive", mostly interrupted as material goods. Thanksgiving is mostly about experience. You have more to offer, more to learn on thanksgiving dinner then over Christmas gifts and meals.

So get off the computer, go to the table, and ask for the gravy.

~Happy Thanksgiving from Homebrew Cafe to you. Here's to an overlooked holiday

On Hiatus

Hiatus is a simple little word, yet it kinda bugs me. I'm an artist, a comic artist to be specific. Some people may argue the point that being a "Comic Artist" isn't the same as being a "True Artist", and although, yes there are some various differences, I would kindly like to you to shove it. I'm not a comic artist for the money. Far from it. I just draw comics to draw a story. Show a little imagination.

Anyways, where was I? Oh yes, Hiatus. Hiatus, in my mind, is just a fancy word to say hold or suspended. So why am I blogging on this word? Well, the comic artist thing had partly to do with. I write, sketch, ink, and (in the future) color comics. This may sound like a laid back job if I was getting paid. Truth be told, I wouldn't mind a buck or two. However, this is a selfless, penniless job. What's the point of me doing it then? The audience.

I'm working on this comic merely for the fact that people will read it. May it be two or two-hundred, It doesn't matter to me. But Hiatus is not something I enjoy calling on myself. The comic posting was too fast the first month and a half and was therefore one of the reasons I needed to suspend the comic for a while. I all "drawn" out, if you will. Get some time, get some steam, and I'll be back and posting at a much healthier two comics a week. Hopefully nothing like this will happen again though.

For more information on my Hiatus status or to read the comic visit the comic website at [Deviant Art] or [Comic Genesis]

Thanks for reading.

On Being Broke

This author has come to realize one general truth: "Being broke sucks". Now, they say "The best thing's in life are free", but I humbly disagree. True, it does not cost to draw, but for that matter neither does playing with a game on a console*. It's the materials that cost, however. Although, yes, it is cheaper to buy a pencil and paper, you're imagination is your limit. With gaming, it cost a little more with a little less brainpower. Now you could throw away both these ideas and play with a ball... but that too would cost a little pocket money. Your best bet: Go play with a rock.

Now, a solution to this problem of being broke is simple. However, following up with it is not. If you are reading this in weeks of its publishing date, We are in a recession. If you read this in some time in the future, lucky or unlucky you. Now, in this economical recession, there are few things going on. Right now, people may be loosing their jobs. Perfectly good mediocre people too. Why? Because the employers can't afford to pay them. Currently, big name company's are laying people off so the plushy C.E.O.'s who live comfortable lives with family and friends can continue to do so. The middle class and below are the ones suffering.

But for the unfortunate people like me are not as lucky. See, in my situation, I have currently been looking for a job since Junior year of high school. I have not been lucky. I have not even been called except for one occasion. It just so happened, I was living in the basement of a friends house when I got the call for an interview**. My roommate just so happened to work that day and so I got a ride from him. However, due to a misunderstanding on his behalf, I was 30 minutes late to the interview. needless to say, I didn't get a callback or a callback number. Lucky me.

So here I sit, filling out applications that are now online. I don't mind the new age ushering in a new way for employment. I don't like filling out applications online. Call me paranoid, but in the new age where identity thief is one of the most common threats, I just don't feel safe even with the security certificate. Hacks and cracks are little something's I'm familiar with. I prefer to hand in a hand written applications.

So I sit here, Waiting weeks on end for a call, a single call, on my cell. After playing games, starting up a webcomic, and chatting with trolls and newbs alike, I wish I had a job. Something to break this mediocre repeating life. In the mean time, I will write. In the mean time, I will draw. In the mean time, I will game. In the mean time...

(*Save for a few games that require that you pay-to-play)
(**
I'd like to point out, before I go on, I never had money for car insurance until my 18th birthday. I owned a motorcycle which I still can't ride because you need a car license for a motorcycle license. This is for another time however)

On "Halo: Waypoint"

Bungie.net or HBO (Halo Bungie Org) has come out with a rather cool way to track your progress in their space odyssey series, "Halo". To Gold Xbox Live Members (People who pay for exclusive content and online gameplay) from November 5-26, were given the option to download this new applications for their Xbox 360. So what does this program do? Quiet simply, It takes the 3 games from the Xbox 360 platform and combines them to give you awards. Allow me to explain in detail.

Last fall, Nov. 18 2008, to be exact, Xbox released their NXE (New Xbox Experience) which included some new features like video marketplace streaming and game marketplace streaming. Along with this, they also released avatars that you could form, shape, and dress little under a year later, Xbox dashboard updates again. With this update they lay down the framework on first generation Xbox so it can support the upcoming Twitter/Facebook/Last.fm update to follow. They also added Avatar Marketplace so you can buy name brands and games from online for your avatar such as Adidas and Bioshock. They also added "Awards" that you could only get from games. The very first game to present these awards was 'Splosion Man, an Xbox Live Arcade Game.

"What does all this have to do with Halo: Waypoint?" you may be asking. Some of you are already concluding what it is. Allow me to continue. Before Halo 3: ODST was released, rumors had be flying around that Bungie was going to add Avatar awards in ODST. Of course they did, however it was not finished in time to ship with the disk. This is where Halo Waypoint comes into play. Along with being a progress report for "Halo Wars", "Halo 3", and "Halo 3: ODST", This game unlocks awards rather then achievements. You can have a range of things for both male and female avatars. Stuff from full body outfits to even the monitor from Halo 3. You know, the one that's buddies with Master Chief up until you decide to activate Installation 04.

Now you may be thinking "I've got all the achievements for the Halo Series. Should I download Waypoint just for the avatar stuff?" Hell no! You should also down Waypoint for the news updates. I know a majority of people don't read RSS feeds (Their lose in my opinion) but with this, they don't have to. Sure news feed varies and are totally different but I'm still watching it. They have information on all things Halo. This includes the books from "The Fall of Reach" to "The Cole Protocol" and "Halo: Legends". I'm not even going to doubt that "Halo Waypoint" will also feature new awards and milestones for the upcoming "Halo: Reach" to be released Fall 2010.

This entire review is totally subjective. I'd rather hear what you think of Waypoint. I'll be looking around for reviews. Tell me what you think :3

Download requires Gold Membership (Silver Released Nov. 26), Internet Connection, Xbox 360, New Xbox Experience
(Optional Requirements: Retail Game "Halo 3", Retail Game "Halo Wars", Retail Game "Halo 3: ODST")

On Halloween (pt. 2)

From Sunset to midnight, people celebrate this day of the year. The one day where offically we can be someone else. We live the fantasy of the person we like, admire, hate, envy, or just someone else. It is an escape from reality, and if the costumes are in theme, it's a perfect world.

Imagine, You are Sora from Kingdom Hearts. You fight the heartless as you try and find Riku and King Micky. Maybe you're Master Chief from Halo, fighting Elites and Brutes to stop the prophets from firing the rings. Perhaps your Takkun or Haruko from FLCL, wielding your 'Bat'. Or maybe you're Batman or Joker saying that goddamned overused phrase "Why So Serious?". Maybe you're Edward or Bella from Twilight. Perhaps you're person is from a book, or game. Fictional or non-fictional, you chose to be someone else.

One last part to this whole article (all be it a mighty short article): Why are you still indoors? Tonight's a night that you celebrate with friends. Shouldn't you be out there with them, egging houses, drinking heavily at parties, and whatnot? Why are you still on the computer.

On Halloween (pt. 1)

Fall has been here for quiet a while. The kids have been in school, inside from the dropping temperatures. People are hugging their coffee more, getting warmth from that small cup of caffeine. Elementary and possible some Middle Schoolers are looking forward to the last saturday of the month. October 31st is going to be a fun evening.

Halloween, All Hallow's Eve, and All Saint's Day have all the same day in mind. To most, it's a day to be someone or something different. The trend the people are a werewolf, a witch, a nurse, many different things, fictional and non-fictional. We carve out vegetables with faces on them. Some artist are actually creative on this festival and make out cool patterns and designs. It's a day both adults and children enjoy with the same kind of thing in mind. Although I'm not too sure, the traditional door-to-door trick or treating may still be going on. Although I prefer the adult version: Pick an outfit (sluty or otherwise), enjoy small snacks, spike the punch, socialize, and play odd games that would reveal more then you would like to.

Hallow's Eve is actually one of my favorite times of the year. One of them, not my all time favorite. Comics that I read mostly take place when the weather is getting colder like Two Kinds and Dream Keeeprs. It seems that the fall is a good place to start a story because most people seem to come together around this time of the year. It's also the beginning of the romantic season but that's another post for another time.

It's My Fur(My current art project) is currently taking place in this time of the year. As the leaves turn, nothing becomes more interesting then the imagination of others during this time of the year.

On "Halo 3: ODST"

About a year ago, Bungie Studios announced a mini expansion pack for Halo 3. Less then 3 month's later, the idea was scrapped, throwing the old name "Halo 3: Recon" away and replacing it with a story "Halo 3: ODST" It was then they made a campaign out of the idea. Being a Halotard myself, I thought "Cool. I get to play as someone other then the Master Chief. No overshields and what not." Right, so I got all excited and pre ordered. They introduced their new play mode called "Firefight". As they described it in the Bungie Podcast, I thought, "Okay, it's Gears of War 2's horde play mode" (Which turned out to be exactly right). They kept talking about how they always played "Firefight" in its early development and how they would always play on unnamed sites, calling them so because they didn't want to spoil it.

Well... About a month ago, the game released and Halo fans young and old picked up their copy. The girl at the Babbage's that I picked up my copy said that kids were skipping school, just to pick up their copy. I had to laugh a little because I would have done the same. I came home and waited, co-oping the game on solo with my brother that night. we played it on normal and like most games, It was the unknown that made the game harder. After we finished it on normal I solo'd it on legendary, something I'd never been able to do with Halo, Halo 2, and only half way with Halo 3. I beat it again in under 3 days on solo legendary. Sure the snipers were a pain but I knew what to expect. The campaign with Buck was annoyingly easy because after you snipe the snipers and kill the brutes, You don't even have to face the hunters. They run so slow you just run right past them, through the doorway and down to the drop pod.

The rest of the game was easy. After picking up my first partner, I found that the immortal bots are immortal. You could headshot them, stick them, laser them, hammer them, blow them up and as long as they didn't fall down a shaft, they did all the work for you. I had more trouble on firefight then anything else and that's because most of my partners kept dying. sure we each got 1 life more every round but they died every time we reached the "Black Eye Skull" round. I reached Par on all the maps, playing on easy with my brother. We would hit them within the 3rd set (5 waves to a round, 3 rounds a set, infinite number of sets.)(Par on all maps is 200,000 points)

Great. So now that I've given away some details on the game, I just have one last achivement to unlock and I'm finished with gaming for a little while. Just gotta wait for my copy of Left 4 Dead 2 to come out and I can play and review that and then save enough money to go back to playing Fallout 3. Hope I didn't spoil anything for ya guys.

On Homebrew Cafe Blog

So I got this blog started and not too sure if anyone is following. Regardless of if there are readers or not, I intend to use this blog. Starting every week, as best as I can, I'll update this blog on sometime on Saturdays. I already said in the first post that this blog was going to be about games, art, and stuff. I'd like to break it down for you.

"On" Media post will be labeled in detail as the title. It may or may not have spoilers so If you want to read, you should be ready for what you're about to see. Media, in this term, is a wide range of music, movies, games, internet, books, and what not. I'm stating is right now because my post will be commentable. These posts stated are opinions. The first one that I read saying what I say isn't right, the article will be closed to comments. It's not about what's right and wrong, its about a point of view.

"On" Art post are rather different. If the post does not have a subject title like a game or a book or something that you don't recognize, It's just an artistic point of view. How I view things, how I think others might see them, and so on and so forth. It's more of a training exercise for drawing a scene with words rather then my usual pencil and paper.

Most of my articles I cannot guarantee that there may or may not be some level of swearing and obscenities in there. For that, I would like you to be informed that I am not sorry for what I say unless otherwise stated. My words are mine to choose and your words are yours to choose. For that, I respect what you have to say even if you don't think I do.

Well... enough with the formality shit. Welcome to Homebrew Cafe and I hope you enjoy reading it.

*Tap* *Tap* This Thing On?

*Mic whiiineeess* Testing one-two, check, one-two. Hello?
Hey there! I don't know how you found this blog but I could care less about that. Welcome to the backwaters of cyberspace people call the internet! You've either randomly stumbled across this blog through some random google search for porn (I hope not) or it was link someplace else. Either way, I'm glad you're here. So, what's this blog about? I couldn't tell ya what it's exactly about but I know its going to end up being a list of my projects and previews and stuff for art, life, etc.

Anyways, It's always polite to say hello so that's pretty much what this blog is about. Oh and if there's nothing on my plate at the moment, I'll try and review some stuff like games, books, movies, etc. Pretty much this is a throw away blogger with post that most no one could care about. I hope you enjoy it :3.
